OUR NAME
What is progress — and who defines it? Too often, it means erasure, imitation, or systems that profit from African creativity without empowering its creators. Being an Enemy of Progress means defining progress on our own terms — through independence, creativity, and cultural power.
AFRICAN WOMEN & THEIR STORIES (A.W.A.T.S.)
In 2024, A.W.A.T.S. released the short film "GBOROKA", which highlights the beauty of feminine unity in Sierra Leone's Bondo culture, while drawing attention to the practice of female circumcision.
The apparel collection is a statement in support of ending female circumcision.
The word "GBOROKA" refers to a woman who has not undergone female circumcision.
